How to Use TajweediQuran

TajweediQuran has two Mushafs, both with colour-coded Tajweed: the 16-line Indo-Pak Quran and the 15-line Madani Mushaf. Both work the same way. This guide covers the controls; the pages below go into more detail.

Detailed guides

  • Tajweed colours

What red, green and blue mean in both Mushafs, with examples.

  • Annotation tools

Pen, highlighter, underline, stamps, shapes, eraser, magnifier and display size.

  • Settings

Dark mode, word interaction, Tajweed colour switches and changing Mushaf.

  • Install the app

Add TajweediQuran to your phone, tablet or computer.

On a phone

On a phone the reader keeps to reading: Previous and Next, Settings (change Mushaf, Tajweed colours, light or dark, a slim or full page frame, and how the page turns) and Home with the Surah and Juz lists. The page fills the screen. Swipe it to turn the page: to the right for the next page, to the left for the previous one, as a Mushaf turns. The page lifts at its corner and folds over like a printed page; Settings can make it slide instead. Pinch with two fingers to zoom in, and drag to move around; double-tap to zoom in or back out. The teaching tools below (annotation, magnifier, mistake marks, bookmarks and page jump) are on tablets and computers.

The reading controls

The controls sit in a bar at the bottom of the screen. On a phone the bar and the title at the top slide away when you swipe to another page, so the page has the whole screen; tap the page to bring them back. On a computer the bar appears when you move the pointer to the bottom edge of the screen, or when you press Tab.

Previous and Next
Turn the page. The Mushaf reads right to left, so its next page lies to the left: Next is on the left and Previous on the right. On a phone, swipe the page to the right for the next page and to the left for the previous one. On a computer the arrow keys work too: ← or ↓ for the next page, → or ↑ for the previous one.
Page number
Select it and type a page number to jump there.
Bookmarks
Save the current page and see all your saved pages. The ribbon fills in when the page you are on is saved.
Settings
Theme, word interaction and Tajweed colours. See the Settings guide.
Mistakes
Appears once you have marked a mistake, and opens the list of marked words.
Annotate
Opens the teaching tools in a rail on the left of the page. See the annotation tools guide.
Home
Opens the navigation hub (below).

Find a Surah, Para or page

Home opens a hub with five tabs:

Surahs
All 114 Surahs, with a search box.
Juz
All 30 Paras.
Page Jump
Type a page number, or pick one of the popular Surahs.
Bookmarks
Your saved pages, to open or remove.
Tools
Reader settings, the annotation tools and your marked mistakes.

Every Surah and Para also has its own page on this site, for example Surah Yaseen in the 16-line Quran. Open one and the reader starts at the right page.

Mark mistakes while listening

While a student recites, tap or click any word to mark it as a mistake; tap it again to clear the mark. A Mistakes button then appears in the bottom bar with the number of marks. It opens the list of marked words: select a word to go to it on its page, remove one mark, or clear them all.

Mistake marks work while no drawing tool is selected.

Teach online

Share your screen in your video call and open the Mushaf. Use the magnifier to show a word up close, the spotlight to point without marking the page, and the pen or highlighter to mark it. The annotation tools guide explains each tool.

Two Mushafs

Change Mushaf from Home or Settings; the other Mushaf opens at the place you are reading. Both carry the Tajweed colours. Bookmarks, mistake marks and annotations are kept separately for each Mushaf.

Where your data is kept

Your reading place, bookmarks, mistake marks, annotations and settings are saved in your browser on this device. They are not sent to us, and they do not move to another device or browser. Clearing your browser's site data removes them. See the privacy policy.

The quick tour

The reader has a short tour in English and Urdu. Choose How to Use at the top right of the reader, beside the title (a ? on phones), or inside Home, to see it again.
